This week, the Audio Design Desk ReDesign challenge takes on the groundbreaking horror film, Get Out. Are YOU up to the challenge?
The American horror film, Get Out, thrilled the world and critics with its “fantastical premise“, “creeping drama“, and “cliché-destroying horror“. Jordan Peele pushed the boundaries of thrillers with his directorial debut, creating almost a new genre of horror, while also challenging racial stereotypes. Falling under the category of “social thriller”, Get Out, tackles casual racism, making it raw, real, and frankly, horrifying. The film earned him the respect of critics, viewers, and is one of the most profitable movies of the 21st century. Get Out won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay with three additional nominations.
In this ReDesign, take a trip into Chris Washington’s [Daniel Kaluuya] mind through this hypnotic scene. Take control and recreate the creepy tension that can be felt in this clip. Sound designers have the power to manipulate the emotions that the viewer can feel while watching. Harness that power and try it to ReDesign this scene yourself.
