This week, the Audio Design Desk ReDesign challenge features the heartwarming animated Disney movie, Coco. Are YOU up to the challenge?
Disney’s Pixar movie, Coco, taught us to never underestimate the power and brilliance of an animated movie. The 2017 movie, follows the 12 year-old, Miguel during the Mexican holiday, The Day of the Dead. Miguel’s passion is playing the guitar, however, his family has a resenting ban on all music. Accidentally transporting himself to the Land of the Dead, Miguel undertakes the thrilling task of searching for his deceased musician great-great-Grandfather. Coco’s Grandfather is the one that can convince his descendants to forgive their grudge on music. Additionally, he is the only one that can return Coco to the real world again before he is stuck in the Land of the Dead forever.
Coco is highly praised throughout the world because of its stunning animation, music, and dedication to Mexican heritage. Critics say, “It’s a feast for the eyes, the cast is pitch perfect, and the music is wonderful“. Winning two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (“Remember Me”), Coco has landed itself among lists of the best animated picture of all time. Above all, it demonstrates the beautiful power of the Mexican culture and connection to ancestors.
